Double Standards
dou·ble stand·ard
/ˈdəbəl ˈstandərd/
noun
plural noun: double standards
- a rule or principle that is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups.
This tweet shows two pictures, in the pictures the two different people have the same expression giving the same emotion.
A little backstory to each of these pictures, the first picture is of Brett Kavanaugh being questioned about sexually assaulting Christine Ford when they were younger. He was being interviewed for a position in the supreme court. When being questioned he didn't fully answer the questions, was rude to the people asking those questions, and spazzed out and started to raise his voice.
The second picture is of Sarina Williams, one of the most famous tennis player. She was wrongfully accused of cheating and she decided to call out the ref for it, getting penalized and fined for it. after that game, she was criticized saying she was a sore loser.
What this tweet is saying is how there are double standards for men and women. Men in tennis have had meltdowns and not be penalized for it and women in the court have been criticized as opinionated and having a meltdown when men like Kavanaugh do it in a job interview.
Things like this happen all the time in our day to day life. If it is at school or work we have to face the struggles of double standards. The worse of it all is one side always gets away with it, wanna guess who.
There where many tweets regarding both of the events and although they both happen at different settings they both have the same emotion but with different outcomes. This tweet really gives off the tone of the unjust situation when Kavanaugh was able to be in the supreme court. So many victims felt heartbroken because, if they let this man in the highest court position after sexually assaulting a woman, their stories won't be validated or even believed. And Sarina Williams was defending herself and was forcibly deducted points making her lose her match.
